How much carbon dioxide does a 12g co2 cartridge contain? How many shots can I get from a 12g co2 cartridge? Both of these questions have been on users' minds for a long time, and the latter can be answered in my blog. I will tell you the answer to the first question in this article. In order to be more precise, I have sorted out 5 famous brands of 12g co2 cartridge. They are Crosman Powerlets, Gamo, Umarex, ASG Ultrair, and SIG Air. Thirty co2 cartridge of each brand were used for testing, which resulted in the following data.
Crosman developed a new 12g cartridge called the Powerlet in 1954, which has been widely used by manufacturers and brands ever since. As an established brand, Crosman Powerlets are available in 5 package sizes, 5, 15, 25, 40 and 500
With an average weight of 43.292 grams, the Crosman Powerlet is the heaviest of several 12g CO2 cartridges, making it clear that the Powerlet uses the most steel material and is the safest. (Of course, only by comparison, the current market circulation of 12g CO2 cartridge brand safety is very good, do not have an explosion problem)
According to the HAM test, the empty weight of Crosman Powerlets after the gas is broken is 30.665 grams at the minimum and 31.567 grams at the maximum. The average Powerlet Empty Weight is 31.007 grams.
By subtracting the empty weight from the total weight, we can know that the filling quantity of Crosman Powerlets 12g CO2 cartridges is 10.444 g at the minimum and 13.223 g at the maximum. So the average Crosman Powerlets 12g CO2 cartridge contains 12.215 grams of CO2, which is a pretty good performance!
Gamo is owned by a holding company with a number of air gun brands under its umbrella. Gamo 12g CO2 cartridges are manufactured in different countries and regions and always occupy a large position in the market. They are popular with BB gun shooting sport enthusiasts. Gamo 12g CO2 cylinders are available in packages of 5 and 25.
The average weight of the GAMO 12g CO2 cartridge is 41.746g, and the HAM test has a maximum and minimum empty weight of 29.970g and 29.100g after the carbon dioxide is discharged through the filter element. The average weight is 29.609 grams.
For GAMO 12g CO2 cartridge that have passed the HAM test, the highest filling quantity is 12.306g and the lowest is 11.840g. The average carbon dioxide content is 12.137 grams. Only 0.078g less than Crosman Powerlets, which is negligible.
Umarex 12g CO2 cartridge are the product of German manufacturer Umarex Sportwaffen GmbH & Co. KG, which was founded in 1972 and has the same strong history as Crosman. Like other brands, Umarex CO2 cartridge are also made in Taiwan.
The average weight of the Umarex 12g CO2 cartridge is 40.412g. For the pierced empty weight, the heaviest one is 29.109 grams, while the lightest one is 28.395 grams, with an average of 28.716 grams.
For the Umarex 12g CO2 cartridge CO2 filling quantity tested by HAM, the average weight is 11.696 g, with a maximum of 11.954 g and a minimum of 11.307g.
ASG Ultraair brand 12G CO2 cartridges are manufactured in Taiwan and supplied in 5 cartridges.
The average weight of ASG Ultrair cartridges is 40.863 grams. After being punctured, the empty ASG Ultrair 12G CO2 cartridges were the lightest and heaviest at 28.109g, with an average weight of 28.824g.
In the HTM test, we obtained a maximum of 12.039g CO2 in the ASG Ultrair 12g cartridge, and a minimum of 11.342g CO2, with an average weight of 12.039g.
The SIG Air 12g CO2 cartridge, like the ASG Ultrair, is supplied by a Taiwanese manufacturer. The product is available in 4 packages of 5, 15, 25 and 40.
The average weight of the 12g co2 cartridge of SIG AIR is 40.779g. After the carbon dioxide is discharged, the lightest and heaviest are 28.456g and 29.181 g, and the average empty weight is 28.895g. The average weight of co2 in the Sig Air 12g co2 cartridge is 11.557 grams.

Through this test, we can see directly that the co2 filling quantity of the three brands of Crosman Powerlet, Gamo and ASG Ultrair reaches and is higher than 12g.Umarex and Sig Air are only slightly lower than 12g.When in use, it is inevitable to waste some carbon dioxide after puncturing the cartridge. Such loss of carbon dioxide is definitely more than the loss in filling quantity less than 12g as shown in the data. Therefore, you can safely use a 12g co2 cartridge and not worry about whether it actually reaches the 12g filling quantity.
